Every single EP3 I’ve been casually browsing at has had a salvage title...how much of an insurance “NO NO” is that?

I wouldn’t do it. Salvage means that it was totaled, but not repaired. Look at my last post for a car that was given a salvage title.

I can’t give you too much good info, as I ended up avoiding a car with a salvage title, but in can definitely affect how much coverage you can get for the car, and whether you can even get collision in some cases.

Ultimately, it depends on why the car has the salvage title. There are plenty of reasons why it may have nothing to do with an accident or flood damage. I would call and discuss with your insurance company if you wanted the best answer.

I’ve owned a salvage/rebuild ‘94 Integra, ‘95 M3, and ‘05 Aveo and never had any problem with insurance. The Integra and Aveo were due to prior accidents, but the M3 was a recovered theft and in great mechanical shape. I’m no expert in the area of car insurance but I assume it’s up to your insurance company to access your car’s DMV records and tell you if they have a problem with a salvage title. I never brought it up with my insurance companies, and they never said anything about it. I also didn’t ever have to file a claim. So...for what pittance that’s worth...

Rebuilt? Possibly. Salvage? Not in my state, I wouldn’t. Sounds like a PITA, outside of the other risks, and so forth.

As a claims adjuster, one thing I can offer to you is that you would need to consider if you were to purchase one and have an accident in it. The insurance company will realize it was a previous total, just making it that much easier to total again due to the value being a lot less for having a salvage title.

You can still have insurance on a vehicle with a salvage title, you may would just need to show proof it was inspected and deemed roadworthy.

I can only speak for my state, though. Different states may have different rules.

Not necessarily. If you total your car and you decide to keep it and repair it, you could still have a salvage title on it if a certain number of components were damaged. The insruance will send information to the owner showing that the title would need to be rebranded. A scrap title, on the other hand, is one where the vehicle is deemed beyond repair and could not be put back on the road.

Were these really rare? I don’t see many on the roads, but I see plenty of early 2000's Civics.

Is your insurance really good, like USAA? Or is it some bottom tier, barely legal insurance?
